VSC Claims
April 20, 2026
A VSC is designed to help protect you from unexpected covered mechanical and electrical repair costs. When a problem occurs, the first step is determining what failed, why it failed and whether the failed component is covered by your specific contract.
Problems can range from a transmission that won't shift, an engine that starts making unusual noises, an electrical system failure or a failed sensor. Modern vehicles can also experience problems with turbochargers, cooling systems, suspension components, infotainment systems and other sophisticated electronics.
The first challenge is often diagnosis. A repair facility may need time to determine exactly what caused the problem.
Once the vehicle is diagnosed, the repair facility typically contacts the VSC administrator with the vehicle information, diagnosis, recommended repair and estimated cost.
Don't authorize major repairs before the required claim authorization is received. Your contract may require prior approval.
A claim isn't always approved immediately. Delays can occur for several reasons:
These steps can take time, particularly when a complicated mechanical or electrical failure is involved.
Once the administrator determines that the repair is covered, authorization is provided to the repair facility. The repair can then proceed according to the terms of the contract.
You may still be responsible for your deductible, non-covered components, maintenance items or other charges specifically excluded by your contract.
A claim can be denied when the failed component or repair isn't covered, an exclusion applies, required documentation isn't available, or other contract requirements aren't satisfied. A VSC is a contract, not a guarantee that every repair will be covered.
The best way to minimize frustration is to understand your coverage before a breakdown occurs. Keep maintenance records, know your deductible and ask the repair facility what information is still needed if your claim is delayed.
At XpressVSC, our goal is to help consumers understand their protection and what to expect when an unexpected repair occurs.
